What is the difference between a Google Ads Coach and Google Ads Consultant?

You have probably seen the ads on Instagram or the discussion in small business blogs about Google Ads Consultants and Google Ads Coaches. You probably also ignored them and assumed they were the same thing. However, they are very different things, and what each one can bring to your business is vastly different.

What is a Google Ads Consultant?

A Google Ads Consultant is a marketing professional who is specialized in managing and optimizing Google Ads campaigns. They are experts at Google Ads and understand the Google Ads platform inside and out. They are skilled in Strategy Development for Google Ads, keyword research, Campaign design, optimization, reporting, and stay on the cutting edge of Google Ads new products and features.

A Google Ads Consultant is somebody that you hire to manage your Google Ads for your business so you don’t have to worry about it or spend time on it anymore. They do all the heavy lifting and report back to you at regular intervals like Monthly or Quarterly. Essentially, you are outsourcing your Google Ads to this person.

What is a Google Ads Coach?

A Google Ads Coach is a marketing professional who is an expert in Google Ads but is focused on teaching and showing you how to get the most out of Google Ads. They are well-versed in the Google Ads platform and can guide you through strategy development, keyword research, campaign design, optimization, and how to generate your own reports. However, the key here is they are teaching you how to use the platform and become a Google Ads expert.

A Google Ads Coach is somebody you hire when you want to be able to one day manage Google Ads yourself, or you want to be in close contact with your Google Ads initiatives. A Google Ads Coach is a great communicator, and is able to teach and show you how to be a Google Ads expert.

Which is Better? A Google Ads Coach or a Google Ads Consultant?

They are both excellent additions to any marketing team. I don’t believe one is better than the other, it really depends on your business goals. Personally, I like the concept of a Google Ads Coach more because the knowledge and expertise are transferred to your organization. Not only do you get an excellent Google Ads Campaign, but you also get the knowledge of the process to do it again and again.

However, a Google Ads Consultant is great because perhaps you don’t have the time to learn Google Ads, or you don’t foresee a scenario where you can commit to running your business’s Google Ads campaigns. A Google Ads Consultant is great for this, because your business still gets the benefit of Google Ads.

Rock Bound Marketing’s Approach

At Rock Bound Marketing we offer both Google Ads Coaching and Google Ads Management. We think both have their value to an organization and advise clients on which service might be a better fit for them. Additionally, we offer a Google Ads Audit service which can help you determine how your Google Ads Account is working and provide a road map to optimize your account.

However, we prefer the Google Ads Coaching approach first for a business. We think that holding your Google Ads Management function internally is a great way to maintain a competitive advantage. Additionally, as search-based advertising is fundamental to marketing now, having that expertise within your marketing department is critical. If a business has tried Google Ads Coaching or doesn’t have the resources to have somebody consistently managing their Google Ads then having a Google Ads Consultant is a great option.
